Patrick’s day-in-the-life as a Business Support Coordinator

9am: A warm welcome

Every now and then, 4OC is lucky enough to welcome a new member to our constantly growing team. It is my job to make this process as comfortable and efficient as possible for all new starters that walk through our doors.

Any newbie’s first day in the office always consists of an in-depth walk through of what our London office has to offer. From how to use our (very overcomplicated, pretty fancy) coffee machine to fire and evacuation procedures – getting a grasp of our London HQ helps to set up our new 4OCers for success!

11am: Crunching the numbers

Once our new starter has settled in, I switch my attention to all things finance. The nature of 4OC Business Support means that we wear a lot of different hats across the company. P1200431 1 4OC’s finance department is a crucial area, as it ultimately oversees all the numbers that have kept 4OC ticking along for the last eight years.

When I started working at 4OC July 2023, my finance skills were sub-par to say the least. With help from my ever-knowledgeable colleagues, Lauren and Miki, I have been able to hone my skills and process as many invoices as my heart desires.

12pm: Lunch and Learn – Sales

Once a month every month, 4OC organise a digital workshop called a ‘Lunch and Learn’. Each session consists of a staff member sharing knowledge on their speciality subject to the whole team. P1200470 1

On this particular Friday, our CEO Paul Marray and Client Director James Underhay delve into the world of sales, outlining the tips and tricks they have developed over their careers. As a Business Support Coordinator, the majority of my work is internal, but this session was centred around the opportunity for all of the business, sales-focused or not, to promote 4OC’s voice through networking, LinkedIn and our everyday engagements. I use these sessions to gain an insight into a side of the business I wouldn’t usually see, which is always very interesting.

3pm: Tailoring onboarding plans

After lunch, I am back at it, this time focusing on tailoring an induction plan for our next new starter. P1200442 1 Our induction plans primarily focus on the first two weeks at 4OC, tailoring induction meetings with different parts of the business depending on the role of the newbie.

I am currently working on the plan for our new Project Support Analyst, Hemisha. I book in the relevant sessions with our 4OC sector specialists, ensuring the new starters have the relevant conversations lined up to put their best foot forward, and ensure that they meet their new buddy, mentor, and someone from every part of our internal operations, too.

4pm: Friday refreshments

At 4OC, Fridays come with a twist — or a citrus garnish, depending on your tipple. We clock off slightly early at 4pm and head to our local hostelry to debrief and decompress. We raise a glass to the week’s victories, big or small. Making complex change so easy can be thirsty work – cheers to that!
