Using System Dynamics research to overhaul public service decision making

So, what is UCL (and more importantly, System Dynamics)?

University College London’s (UCL) Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering designs and delivers research on the interactions between the built environment and health, human wellbeing, productivity, energy use and climate change.

Together, 4OC and UCL recognise there is a major challenge in developing a collaborative understanding of the conflicts and tensions of different neighbourhood issues and prioritisation of problems/solutions.

UCL is working with 4OC to co-develop a stronger understanding of the complex systems that lead to significant delivery problems with publicly funded community services.

 

The goal of this work is to improve the delivery of system strategic priorities (such as population health, social value, second chances and fair criminal services, etc.) within the available resources, whilst engaging local residents, who form a necessary part of the solution.

So, who are We Are Digital?

We Are Digital is a social impact company that aims for everyone to easily access digital services, advice and support needed to confidently live their lives to the fullest. One of their five core services is digital inclusion support. We Are Digital recognises that in today’s online world, for millions of people, lack of opportunity means hardship and lost opportunity.

This is why we are excited to announce our partnership with HiCo. Sharing similar values is important to us at 4OC, so we are over the moon to find another organisation that is just as enthusiastic about working with the public service as we are.

So, what is HiCo?

HiCo is a Wales-based company that specialises in providing practical help, advice and support primarily to the public sector and not-for-profit organisations including Government, the NHS, Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Care & Support Providers and Charities.

They have a strong background in social care and health services delivery strategy and leadership as well as an in-depth knowledge of the legislative and policy framework in Wales and Welsh social care delivery. Providing their services in both Welsh and English, they are strength-based, building on what is working well in order to approach challenges and opportunities more ethically and efficaciously.

HiCo has a really positive track record of helping Welsh local authorities with social care challenges ranching from reviews of day opportunities for adults with learning disability to developing long-term strategies that respond to the future projected health and social care future needs of older populations.

All of HiCo’s associates have professional backgrounds in the fields they support clients with and therefore their support is grounded and better tailored as a result of that operational context. Whilst based and focused in Wales, HiCo also provides services in other countries.
